What is it?
Pre-pregnancy counselling aims to assess the health of people planning pregnancy and their partners before conception. Chronic conditions, medications, vaccination status and family history are discussed.
Necessary blood tests, vitamin supplements and lifestyle suggestions are covered. If there were problems in previous pregnancies, the approach for a new pregnancy can be planned in advance.
Every couple's health history and needs are different; the content of the session and recommended tests are tailored to you after the examination.
Who is it assessed for?
- People planning pregnancy in the near future
- People with a chronic condition or regular medication
- People who had a miscarriage or preterm birth before

Questions
Should my partner attend?
It is not required, but coming together can help with family history and some tests.
Should I stop my medications?
Do not stop medications on your own. Suitability in pregnancy is assessed together with the doctor who prescribed them.
How far in advance should I come?
A visit a few months before you plan to conceive leaves time for preparation.
This page is for general information and does not replace a medical examination. Results and the suitable approach vary from person to person.
