Adult Attention Assessment

Difficulties with focus, disorganisation and impulsivity are assessed in detail together with childhood history.

What is it?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder begins in childhood and continues into adulthood for some people. Difficulty finishing tasks, forgetfulness, time management problems and impulsivity are common concerns.

Assessment covers not only current difficulties but also childhood and school years. Questionnaires, old school reports where available and information from relatives are reviewed together. Sleep, anxiety and mood problems that can cause similar symptoms are also considered.

Assessment may take more than one session. Results and options are discussed with you; the suitable path depends on each person's circumstances.

Who is it assessed for?

  • Adults who have struggled with attention and organisation since childhood
  • Those finding it hard to keep continuity at work or in education
  • Parents of a child with an attention diagnosis who notice similar traits
  • People assessed before who wish to restart follow-up

Questions

Is the assessment completed in one session?

Usually more than one is needed. A feedback session follows once questionnaires and history are complete.

Should I bring old school reports?

Not required, but documents with teachers' comments help in understanding childhood.

Will medication be started afterwards?

Medication may be one option. The decision is made together based on results and your preferences.
