Plastic Surgery

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Surgery that adjusts excess skin and fat in the upper or lower eyelids.

What is it?

Blepharoplasty aims to adjust loose skin, muscle or fat in the eyelids. In some people a drooping upper lid narrows the upper part of the visual field.

The consultation covers lid structure, brow position, any history of dry eye and visual field complaints. An ophthalmology opinion is requested when needed.

Healing speed and scar appearance differ with skin type. The extent of surgery is decided together with your surgeon based on the examination.

Who is it assessed for?

  • People who feel their field of vision is narrowed by upper lid drooping
  • People with marked lower lid fat bags
  • People with daily discomfort from excess lid skin
  • People whose eye conditions such as dry eye are under control

Questions

Will there be a visible scar?

The incision is usually placed in the natural lid crease. Scar appearance changes over time and depends on skin type.

I have dry eyes. Is it still possible?

Dry eye can affect planning. An eye assessment comes first and the decision follows.

When can I return to screen work?

Resting the eyes is advised in the first days. The timing is discussed at your check-up.
