What is it?
Clenching and grinding often happen unconsciously during sleep. Tooth wear, morning jaw fatigue, headache and sensitivity may accompany it.
Wear patterns, chewing muscles and the jaw joint are examined. A custom night guard may be made to protect the teeth; stress, sleep and daily habits are also discussed.
A guard does not remove the cause of clenching but helps protect the teeth. Joint assessment with other specialties may be advised, and the approach is agreed after the examination.
Who is it assessed for?
- People with morning jaw tiredness or pain
- Those with worn or chipped teeth
- People told they grind their teeth at night
